Growth habits of Gisela 6 rootstock grown in containers of different volumes
Vanya Akova
Abstract: A pot experiment was carried out at the Fruit Growing Institute in Plovdiv to establish the effect of the container volume of the growth habits of Gisela 6 rootstock. Containers with a volume of 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 liters were used. The substrate was a mixture of peat and per lite at a ratio 2:1. Surface fertilization was carried out four times with NH4NO3 applied at the same rate, recalculated per liter of peat. It was established that the root system volume of the plants increased with the increase of the nutrient volume, the differences between the separate variants being statistically significant. Plants with a height of 79.6 to 93.0 and stem diameter of 5.9 to 6.3 mm were obtained in the separate variants, with no statistically significant differences between them. Rootstocks suitable for grafting were obtained even in the containers of the smallest nutrient volume. It is recommended to agricultural practice to use containers with a volume not more than 5 L for pot cultivation of Gisela 6 rootstock.
