Evaluation of accessions of six-rowed barley of grain yield and yield related traits
Toshka Popova, Darina Valcheva
Abstract: During the period of 2007-2009 at the Institute of Agriculture - Karnobat a study of 22 selective accessions of six-rowed barley was conducted. The aim of the study was to evaluate the accessions by components of yield and to select high-productive forms for inclusion in the barley selection program. The traits subjected to this investigation were: yield (kg/da), number of spike producing tillers per m2, number of spike producing tillers per plant, height of plant (cm), spike’s length (cm), number of grains per spike, number of sterile spikelets per spike, grain weight per spike (g), grain weight per plant (g), 1000 grain weight (g). On the basis of the mathematical and statistical processing of the experimental data, it was found that the conditions of the year were decisive for the formation of the yield, the number of productive tillers per plant, the length of the class and the weight of the grain from a plant. Genotype is determinant at plant height, number of grains in class, grain weight in class, and mass of 1000 grains. The number of productive tillers per m2 was influenced almost equally by both the genotype and the conditions of the year. The greatest contribution to the formation of the yield is the number of productive tillers per m2, the number of productive tillers per plant and the grain weight of the class. High-yield six-rowed barley lines are PG 4190, PG 4354 and PG 4199, which can be successfully used in the selection of barley.
