Study of local populations of maize in relation to the selection

Abstract: This article regards some problems relating to the improvement of old local varieties of maize, with a view their use as a initial material for selection. Aim of the review study is to draw attention to the rich fund gene of local corn varieties available for our country. Their use in practice with introduction of foreign varieties and distant forms will enrich the fund gene and create a starting material of various genetic bases.
