Virulence diversity in bean rust in Bulgaria
Magdalena Koleva, Ivan Kiryakov
Резюме: Bean rust is a disease of economic importance to many parts of the world. In Bulgaria it occurs annually in The Rhodope mountain, and for the plains of Northern Bulgaria the disease is sporadic. The use of resistant varieties is the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly method of disease control. Of paramount importance for any breeding program aimed at creating resistant varieties is the study of virulence diversity in the pathogen population. This review presents summary information on the spread and economic significance, etiology and symptomatology of the disease, genetic control of resistance, virulent diversity of the pathogen worldwide and in Bulgaria over the past 20 years.
