Effect of irrigation on ascorbic acid content of Solanum cheesmaniae tomato collection
Galina Pevicharova, Daniela Ganeva, Dani Zamir
Резюме: Solanum cheesmaniае tomato collection consisting of 58 recombinant inbreds obtained as a result of hybridization between Solanum lycopersicum and Solanum cheesmaniae was investigated. The plants were grown as irrigated and non-irrigated. A standard agrotechnology for determinant tomatoes was applied. It was found that the influence of the irrigation regime on the ascorbic acid synthesis in the fruits was relatively minor. The genotype effect on this component in the lines with red, red-orange and orange-red fruits was at close and high values up to 55.21 per cent. The ascorbic acid content varied from 19.48 to 60.49 mg per 100 g for irrigated plants and from 12.52 to 85.64 mg per 100 g for non-irrigated ones. Some of the lines could be used as initial materials for breeding of tomatoes with high biological value combined with drought tolerance.
